In a nutshell, Google Ads (formerly known as AdWords) is a system that allows businesses to bid on advertising space in Google search results and other Google-affiliated properties. AdSense is a system that allows publishers and website owners to sell advertising space to businesses. Google AdSense allows publishers to place ads on their websites and other properties for a fee. These publishers are part of the Google Display Network that advertisers can take advantage of through Google Ads. AdWords vs. AdSense? The difference is relatively straightforward on the surface. AdWords is for advertisers, while AdSense is for publishers (and now there's a one-stop shop for both). However, it can be confusing when you dig a little deeper. Both are essential to PPC marketing. But they are used in completely different ways, for completely different reasons, to reach completely different people. Advertisers use AdWords to serve display ads on the AdSense network. So, they're not exactly as distinct and separate as they seem. This article provides a quick overview of how AdWords compares to AdSense and how advertisers can master both by having them work together. Google AdSense is perfect for website publishers who are already receiving traffic and want to monetize it. Adsense is the platform that you can use as a webmaster or blog owner (we call it a “publisher”) for Google ads to show on your website. Yes, you can use rich media ads, but they will appear on the Google Display network (sites that participate as publishers in Adwords) i. If you write a blog about celebrity fashion trends, for example, AdSense will include ads on your website for an online footwear company. So what does an AdWords ad look like? When I search for “Adwords help”, four AdWords ads appear at the top of the SERP, followed by the first non-advertising search result (Google's support page). The AdSense robot scans the blogger's website for content to see the category of ads to be added to the site and display targeted text, video, or image ads.
